Abstract
Dry eye disease (DED) is characterised by loss of tear film homeostasis and a lack of association between signs and symptoms. This video demonstrates a novel non-invasive artificial intelligence imaging methodology to bridge the knowledge gap between signs and symptoms in dry eye disease (DED).
This device captures the thermal profile on the ocular surface and shows higher variability in the rate of temperature change among dry eye patients. It also demonstrates how thermal profile changes in patients where tear metrics are normal but ocular surface discomfort is present. This video elucidates how therapeutic interventions like cold BCL's and chilled BSS may help in reducing variability in ocular surface temperature and therefore ocular discomfort. The use of thermography may signal a paradigm shift in our understanding of dry eye symptoms and how we treat them. The novel thermography device is a cost effective and ergonomically designed device to analyse ocular surface discomfort.
