FP1650 : Long-Term dual tamponade with Silicon Oil and PFCL for Complex RDs – The Sandwich Technique

Abstract

PURPOSE – To evaluate the anatomical and visual outcomes in complex retinal detachment cases treated with Sandwich Technique.
METHOD – Retrospective study of 21 eyes underwent vitrectomy with the Sandwich technique. The primary outcome was the retinal reattachment rate, and the secondary outcomes were the changes in BCVA at one-month post-sandwich technique and the final surgical intervention respectively.
RESULTS – Commonest indication was traumatic RD with retinal incarceration (38.09%).One – month post-sandwich technique, the retinal reattachment rate was 85.71% ;while it was 61.9% at one-month post final surgical intervention. No significant changes in the BCVA were noted at all the visits (P=0.84). However, one-third (7 eyes; 33.33%) of the patients gained functional vision at the final visit. The mean duration of the Silicon oil-PFCL tamponade was 125 days.
CONCLUSION – The sandwich technique can be adopted for difficult RD patients to improve retinal reattachment rates.
