VT0002 : A Novel technique of Secondary IOL with 30 g needle.

Abstract

Abstract: Technique of doing secondary IOL with 30 g needle.
Technique: 30g needle along with pieces of 240 band. 30 g needle is inserted into sclera at 1.5 mm perpendicular to limbus and progressed forward to 1.5mm. The needle is then pierced into vitreous cavity and tip of needle is brought out of the lip of tunnel. The leading haptic is then inserted into the tip of needle. The needle is gradually withdrawn backwards thus pulling the haptic along with it. As soon as the haptic is out of sclera the piece of band is slipped into it, thus preventing slippage back into vitreous cavity, similarly leading haptic is withdrawn. Haptics trimmed and cauterized to make them blunt. Conjunctival tunnel is sutured.
Result: Hassle free technique with stable IOL without using end-gripping forceps , saves time with minimal bleeding, no post-op hypotony and done with readily available instruments
Conclusion: Glueless, less astigmatic with faster wound healing and economic too.
