Abstract
Study Design: Retrospective
Purpose: To study the clinical presentation, demographics, management and visual outcome in patients
diagnosed with relentless placoid chorioretinitis.
Method: Record of 42 eyes of 22 patients diagnosed with relentless placoid chorioretinitis was analyzed.
Result: Majority of the patients were young males with a median age of 23.5 years with bilateral
involvement in 90.9% of the cases. Although macula was involved in 47.6% eyes with recurrences in
95.5%, vision remained either stable or improved in 85.7% of the eyes with treatment. Visual fields were
affected (paracentral/central scotoma/nonspecific field defect) in 47.6% eyes. 7.1% eyes showed generalized
reduction in sensitivity even after treatment.
Conclusion: Relentless placoid chorioretinitis generally occurs in younger population with male
preponderance and usually involves both the eyes, either at presentation or eventually. Visual outcome
is generally good if treated meticulously.
