Abstract

A comparison of closure of fornix incision with fibrin glue and 8-0 vicryl to see its efficacy, time consumption & postop redness on digital bulbar redness scale (temporal) at one week postop and 1 month postop was done
A total of 100 exotropia patients who underwent surgery under general anesthesia were included in the study. All patients underwent unilateral surgery. 50 patients each had closure with fibrin glue (Baster) (FG) and vicryl suture (VS)
Mean age was 9.4 +/- 5.8 years in the FG group versus 8.8 +/- 6.1 years in the VS group. The mean time taken for closure with FG was 92.6 +/-34.6 seconds whereas for VS was 5.6 +/- 3.2 minutes. At 1 week the mean value on DBS was 73.4 +/- 10.1 for FG and 89.2 +/- 8.62 for VS. At 1 month it was 10.4 +/- 7.6 for FG and 22.3 +/- 8.1 for VS group
None of the patients had any complications
Fibrin glue is a valuable alternative to 8-0 Vicryl suture to close conjunctival incision. It takes less time and causes less redness at the end of 1 month
