Abstract
This is a single centre based, prospective, observational, comparative, ongoing study. The study was done to evaluate the uniformity of flap thickness in LASIK surgery done by femtosecond laser and microkeratome and to compare the improvement in visual outcome. 86 patients operated in 18 months presented for a post-op evaluation at day 1 and day 7.
Apart from the routine checkup during the one week visit following parameters were noted
1) Uncorrected Visual acuity
2) Flap thickness by AS-OCT at five points in each eye: Central, 1.5 mm superior, temporal, inferior and nasal to the centre in vertical and horizontal meridians.
Our results so far show Visual Acuity to be statistically indifferent in the two groups but that it was seen that Flap thickness was more uniform in Femtosecond group.
We concluded that femtosecond LASIK creates more uniform and predictable flaps as compared to microkeratome. Although, there is no difference between the achieved visual acuity between the two.
