Abstract

As climate change and global warming looms large on us as a society, we must do what we can to combat it. While recycling and reusing are popular, in this video we focus on various methods of repurposing eyecare waste.

Repurposing is the use of something for a purpose other than its original intended use. We discuss various ways to repurpose the commonly generated eyecare waste. For example, we use plastic covers to protect the phaco footpedal and printed A scan results, increasing their longevity. The plastic piece on new specs frames are used as OPD tokens The OR generates the most waste, so we developed innovative methods to decrease it. We repurpose IOL boxes to cover switchboards and hold eyedrops for patients with corneal ulcers, toothed tissue forceps are converted into OPD forceps when they lose grip. These are just a few of out the many examples highlighted in the video. Repurposing is an effective way to reduce eyecare waste, carbon footprint and enhance resource efficiency
