Abstract

A cataract surgeon in the beginning of their career will start to develop his own set of habits based on performance feedback from individual patients. Some of these habits are obvious and common sense, some are necessary to ensure the best outcomes, and some are superstition. Seasoned cataract surgeons have usually developed rituals and habits in their behavior that have allowed them to approach busy and challenging surgery days with more confidence. Here I will present the challenges faced in my private practice. Challenges vary from a routine case turning non-routine to cases which are actually challenging, such as Small Pupil, PXF, IFIS, or previous trauma to name a few. It is important to plan each and every case individually as a good case will bring in two more cases but a bad one will take away a few. Here are few cases where the going got tough and I tried performing at my best during each case. A bouquet of variety of surgical cases in my practice.
