VT0593 : Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery(MIGS) in 3D printed and Mixed Reality

Abstract

MIGS(Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgeries) has great potential in managing mild to moderate glaucoma, but getting started is an obstacle. Similarly, with Glaucoma Drainage Devices, there is a lack of experience with the devices for most surgeons. We decided to design and 3D print various different glaucoma drainage devices, MIGS implants & MIGS instruments for surgeons to get an experience of the shape & feel of the devices in their hand & prepare for surgery. These can be used in wetlab for practice before moving on to actual surgeries. We designed 3D models of the implants & devices using Free and Open Source Software(FOSS) & used resin based SLA 3D printer to manufacture the designed implants. We have uploaded the designs for free online on NIH 3D(of US govt) and Thingiverse. These can be explored in Mixed Reality using a smartphone based headset & 6DoF controller
Hope glaucoma surgeons across the world will download & use these 3D models to improve their surgical skills.
