VT0535 : Surgical nuances in the management of Intraocular cysticercosis

Abstract

Intraocular cysticercosis may present with sub-retinal cyst or vitreous cysts which may be associated with severe vitreous inflammation. 25G MIVS, despite its smaller gauge may be used effectively in these patients with low to nil risk of anaphylaxis due to the high cut rate and aspiration. In our video, we present three distinct scenarios of intraocular cysticercosis and its consequent management. Case 1 demonstrates the management of a patient with vitritis and vitreous cyst. Case 2 demonstrates the management of a patient with a live sub-macular cysticercosis cyst. Case 3 demonstrates the management of a patient with a dead sub-retinal cysticercosis cyst. The post-operative outcome of each patient is discussed as all 3 patients were managed successfully with no adverse reaction in any patient.
