VT0396 : Fishing out deep stromal foreign bodies

Abstract

Retrieval of deep corneal foreign bodies is a challenging task to the ophthalmologists. Deep stromal wooden foreign bodies need urgent and in toto removal. This video demonstrates removal of three deep corneal foreign bodies removal. First case demonstrates three vertically oriented full thickness stromal foreign bodies. These foreign bodies were removed using a combined ab-externo and ab-interno approach. In the second case, anterior corneal stromal foreign body was removed by opening of the track and using the vitreoretinal foreign body forceps. In third case, the deep metallic corneal foreign body removal was attempted using ab-externo approach. The foreign body removal using the anterior approach was unsuccessful. During the maneuvers, the foreign body descended inadvertently into the anterior chamber. The foreign body was finally removed using intracameral approach. This video is extremely useful as it demonstrates 3 different techniques for removal of deep corneal foreign bodies.
