Abstract
A 38/ M came with sudden diminution of vision in the RE since 15 days after history of trauma to that eye while welding. He was operated immediately elsewhere for a pars plana vitrectomy with lensectomy. He presented at our tertiary eye care hospital and on examination was found to be aphakic with an intraocular foreign body impacted onto the retina, 1 disc diameter in size, supero temporal to the optic disc. Rest of the retina showed siderotic changes. IOFB measuring 7mm * 3mm was removed by the double magnet technique through the sclero corneal tunnel. Endo laser at the site of foreign body and silicon oil implantation was done. We concluded that due to probable lack of instrumentation at primary care centres, patients need a second intervention to manage complications. Remnant metallic foreign bodies should be removed timely to prevent siderotic changes and for better visual prognosis.
