VT0223 : Surgical strike – complete excision of a congenital iris cyst

Abstract

Purpose :To show a technique of complete congenital iris cyst excision with iris anatomy reconstruction to reduce the chance of recurrence of the cyst
Case of congenital iris cyst, history of cyst aspiration 3 years back elsewhere
Surgical method :Side port incisions were made. Aqueous-viscoelastic exchange done. Tap from the cyst was taken for culture. The fluid was aspirated leading to collapse of the cyst. As the anterior cyst wall was adhered to corneal endothelium, gentle viscodissection was done. For visualisation, endoilluminator was used. Biopsy was taken for HPE. Anterior cyst wall was removed by vitrector. At one place anterior and posterior walls were fused together leading to iris defects. The iris defects were closed by single pass four throw technique. Viscoelastic was washed and AC formed with air. All the side ports were sutured.
Result :The patient was doing well at 18 months follow up with stable vision and no evidence of recurrence of the iris cyst.
