FP1203 : “PSEUDOEXFOLIATION”– AN ENTITY BEYOND EYE !!A Clinical Study of various Cardiac Associations in PXF

Abstract

Pseudoexfoliation syndrome is a chronic age-related disorder of extracellular matrix characterized by production & deposition of abnormal fibrillary material within various body tissues.
Study design & Purpose – Cross sectional study to determine various types of cardiac associations in patients with ocular PXF.
Methods –50 cases with ocular PXF on Slit lamp examination were subjected to cardiac evaluation like ECG, 2D ECHO, Blood Pressure recording, Blood investigations: Lipid profile, Homocysteine & Lipoprotein A levels, to look for any cardiac associations & type of cardiac association if present, after obtaining consent. Study period: April 2023-September 2023.
Result & Conclusion – It was found that patients with ocular PXF were commonly associated with cardiovascular diseases. Following results were obtained in this study:-Arterial hypertension- 34%, Bundle branch blocks- 35%, reduced Ejection Fraction- 26%, elevated Homocysteine & Lipoprotein A levels-19% & 21% respectively.
