Abstract
Purpose :
To describe the management in different stages of familial exudative vitreoretinopathy(FEVR)
Setting/Venue :
Hospital
Methods :
FEVR is defined as a group of inherited retinal diseases characterized by abnormal retinal angiogenesis leading to incomplete vascularization of the peripheral retina & retinal ischemia. It may lead to vitreoretinal traction, subretinal exudation, retinal folds & tractional retinal detachment (TRD) . Revised clinical staging was given in 2014.
Results :
This video shows the management of different stages of FEVR. Laser photocoagulation in early stages may reduce complications like exudative RD and TRD. In the stage of exudative RD scleral buckling can stabilize it. Surgery in stage of RD also gives good result with newer machines and instrumentation.
Conclusions :
Due to vision threatening sequelae of neovascularization in FEVR, an early diagnosis and treatment can preserve vision.
