IC0470 : Limbal stem cells & tissue engineering of the cornea: An overview

Abstract

Active engagement of Regenerative medicine (RM), AI, and biomedical tissue engineering are very significant, and paradigm shift in the clinical practice in all the disciplines of medicine including Ophthalmology. The concept of limbal stem cells has been well established by evidence-based studies including molecular ophthalmology, and stem cell markers as well as the successful outcome following various Ocular surface modulation surgical practices. In addition, tissue culture of corneal epithelium has opened up a new window to handle severe corneal and ocular surface disorders. The paucity of donor cadaveric cornea has prompted the need for readily available artificial biomedical-engineered corneal tissue. The proposed instruction course is intended to review the current status and prospects pertaining to the advancement and clinical applications of limbal stem cells as well as artificial biomedical-engineered corneal tissue.
