Abstract

The instruction course will discuss step by step surgical steps of phacoemulsification and provide surgical pearls to achieve optimal outcomes in routine and complex situations. Management of intumescent white cataract will be discussed with an emphasis on tackling cases with raised intralenticular pressure. Tips to achieve a central continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis shall be imparted along with management of fibrotic capsules, paediatric rhexis and capsular tears. Use of capsular hooks and pupil expansion rings will be demonstrated in cases with small pupil and intraoperative floppy iris syndrome. Video based demonstration of challenging case scenarios will be performed, including subluxated nucleus with varying extent of subluxation and grade of nuclear sclerosis, hard cataracts, post-refractive surgery cataracts (post-RK/post-LASIK/ post-phakic IOL) and posterior polar cataracts with/without nuclear sclerosis, highlighting the role of femtosecond laser technology.
