GP0103 : Optimizing Ophthalmology Residency with Objective and standardized training methodology.

Abstract

Prof. Sandeep Gupta

South Asia is the blindness capital of the world. However most of the blindness is preventable or treatable with optimum health care methodology. In spite of churning out hundreds of Ophthalmologists every year from multiple medical colleges from the region, it has been seen that the quality and output is woefully lacking in these young specialists. The reason is not them as most of them are eager, however the quality of training is woefully lacking and no objective methodology of training and assessment of their clinical and surgical skills is there apart from an exit exam. We have a network of eye training centers across India providing uniform standardized training to our residents which has resulted in excellent results. The aim of this IC is to share our experiences with all trainers so as to improve the quality of Ophthalmic care across the board.
