FP0965 : The Water Drinking Provocation Test- an aid to decision making in management of OHT and POAG

Abstract

Purpose: To study response to WDPT in POAG, OHT and glaucoma suspects and establish the role of WDPT as a supplementary tool in glaucoma management.
Methods: 319 eyes of 161 patients were categorised into Group A(POAG on treatment), Group B(treatment-naïve POAG), Group C(OHT), Group D (suspects). All patients were asked to drink 1 litre of water within 5 minutes, IOP was recorded after 20 and 30 mins. The baseline, peak and IOP fluctuation were analysed. Fluctuation of ≥ 5 mm Hg was considered positive.
Results: 19 eyes were categorized as Group A ; 58, 96 and 146 as Groups B,C and D respectively. Mean peak IOP was higher in Groups B and C followed by Groups A and D. Mean IOP fluctuation was maximum in Group A and minimum in Group D. Positive WDPT response was seen in 89.5% and 77.6% eyes in Group A and B, 55.2% and 48.6% in Groups C and D respectively.
Conclusion: WDPT is a quick, inexpensive practical tool in glaucoma management.
