Abstract
With a prevalence of 20–28.3%, anemia is considered as an important risk factor for developing retinopathy. Various types of anemia like iron deficiency anemia, pernicious anemia, aplastic anemia, beta-thalassemia, sickle cell anemia, etc. can result into retinal changes. Factors such as venous stasis, anoxia, angiospasm, thrombocytopenia and increased capillary permeability are responsible for the development of retinopathy.
Here, we report a case of 43y/male who was diagnosed with pancytopenia and underlying hemorrhagic retinopathy.
Patient was started on blood transfusion followed by oral iron tablets and observed with nil intervention from ophthalmic side. After 4 months, recovery was noted seen as resolution of retinal haemorrhages and visual recovery upto 6/9 in left eye.
