Abstract

We report a sporadic case of benign flecked dystrophy of retina in a 9 year old girl of south-Indian descent who came for a routine eye checkup. The patient only had complaints regarding visual acuity but no other issues regarding night blindness or visual field defects but on examination of both her fundi, revealed numerous symmetrical yellowish white flecked polymorphs. These lesions involved entirety of the fundus but the macula was healthy in both the eyes. Posterior segment OCT revealed multiple small localised elevations of the retinal pigment epithelium. The flecks showed hyperauto-fluorescence(likely because of lipofuscin deposition) on blue and infrared filters. And ERG revealed normal findings in scotopic and photopic settings. Other family members had no similar findings and there was no history of consanguinity among the parents.
