ABSTRACT BODY
Purpose: To present the effect of infrared diode laser in a patient
suffering from symptomatic retinal arterial macroaneurysm causing
exudative maculopathy.
Methods: A 67-year-old male patient was diagnosed in his left eye with
retinal macroaneurysm of the infero temporal artery with exudative
maculopathy and retinal hemorrhage. Best corrected visual acuity in
left eye was 3 meters. Flourescein angiography revealed the vascular
lesion with leakage. Laser treatment using subthreshold laser
parameters was done with Volk area centralis lens at the site of
vascular lesion using infrared diode laser (810 nm)
Results: Visual acuity improved to 6/18 at 5 month follow-up with
complete resolution of macular edema and hard exudates. At 4 year
follow-up visual acuity of 6/12 is maintained.
Conclusion: The use of subthreshold laser therapy represents a
effective approach in the treatment of Retinal Arterial Macroaneurysm
with an advantage of reduced complication rate.
