FP0853 : Geographic Conjunctival Ulcer – A rare presentation of herpetic eye disease

Abstract

Purpose:To report a case of herpetic geographic conjunctival ulcer
Method:Clinical record review
Result: A 47 year old male presented with redness and watering in right eye since 15 days. Patient was diagnosed as a case of acute conjunctivitis elsewhere and started with topical gatifloxacin, steroids and lubricant to which worsening of symptoms was noted. At presentation, the visual acuity was 6/9 and 6/6 in the right and left eye respectively. Clinical examination of right eye revealed lid oedema, lid margin excoriation, conjunctival congestion with chemosis and multiple geographical conjunctival ulcer. Rose Bengal staining of the right eye revealed corneal dendritic ulcer near limbus Treatment with eye ointment acyclovir was started. Follow-up assessment showed good response to treatment with complete resolution of lesions by third day of treatment initiation.
Conclusion : Conjunctival geographic ulcer is a rare yet known spectrum of HED that responds well to antiviral treatment.
