Abstract
STUDY DESIGN: Prospective Observational Study PURPOSE: In Encirclage operation, 360-degree conjunctival peritomy is done. This leads to loss of conjunctival goblet cells. The aim is to evaluate the change in objective and subjective statuses of ocular surface after Encirclage surgery. METHODS: Objective and subjective parameters are assessed in 31 eyes pre-operatively, immediate post-operative, 1 and 6 months. Subjective assessment included ocular surface index (OSDI). Objective assessment included tear film breakup time (TBUT), Schirmer’s test, tear film meniscus height, tear film osmolarity. RESULTS: When compared, all the parameters were found to be statistically significant (p< 0.05) in immediate post-operative. At one month, only mean Schirmer test was comparable (p>0.05). At 6 months, only mean tear film osmolarity was found to be significant (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: Prevalence of post-operative dry eye is quite significant in patients undergoing Encirclage Surgery.
