Abstract

Retinal capillary hemangioblastoma is a vascular tumor of the retina found in association with von Hippel-Lindau disease. The occurrence of solitary ocular hemangioblastoma is less commonly reported. We report a case of an 8 year old boy who presented to us with solitary ocular hemangioblastoma with prominent feeder vessels and associated traction and neurosensory detachment, which is a recognized complication and can be difficult to treat. Preliminary screening was done to rule out systemic associations. Intravitreal injections of Triamcinolone Acetonide and Ranibizumab were tried along with laser ablation of the lesion and feeder vessels. Due to persistence of macular traction, Pars plana vitrectomy with membrane peeling and truncation of membranes surrounding the lesion was done and sulphur hexafluoride was used to settle the detached retina. Reduction in size of the lesion was noted post operatively, with attached retina and improved stable visual acuity on follow up.
