FP0724 : Rehabilitating the Traumatised Eye

Abstract

Study design: Prospective interventional Purpose:To report challenges faced in management of post traumatic aphakia with secondary glaucoma Methods:An adolescent girl presented with medically uncontrolled glaucoma and aphakia post-fire-cracker injury to right eye for which single-loop fixation of posterior chamber intraocular lens (PCIOL) and Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV) implantation was done.A second trauma 6 days later caused tube retraction with an IOP spike. An anterior repositioning of the tube–plate complex controlled the IOP. However, she subsequently developed a tenon cyst causing a second IOP spike.Topical timolol, dorzolamide and digital massage were advised.Result: At 2-years, IOP was in lower teens sans medications and patient gained a vision of 6/18.Conclusion: The combined approach of single-loop fixation of PCIOL with AGV implantation is an effective procedure for rehabilitation of post-traumatic glaucoma with inferior capsular remnants and extensive conjunctival scarring.
