Abstract
MATERIAL AND METHOD: It is a prospective, clinical study done on patients of primary chronic dacrocystitis. All the patients were randomly divided into 2 groups: Group 1 underwent external DCR surgery and Group 2 went for DCR surgery with Lester Jone’s tube implantation. The study's success was objectively measured by sac patency on syringing during follow-up visits.
RESULTS: A total of 70 patients were included in the study as per our inclusion and exclusion criteria. Group 1 had 35 patients and Group 2 had 35 patients. The mean age of the patient was 51.56 years ( 18-67yrs ). The mean duration of surgery in Group 1 was 75.2 minutes and in Group 2 was 67.3 minutes. The success rate of the procedure in Group 1 was 89.3% and in Group 2 was 97.4%.
CONCLUSION: DCR surgery with tube implantation is safer and faster than conventional surgery.
