FP0682 : The Other Eye: Subjective patient experience between first and second eye cataract surgery

Abstract

The study was prospectively performed, based on a simple questionnaire drafted for patients post cataract surgery. Patients were asked if there was a major difference in sensation, perception of duration and anxiety status between their own first and second eye cataract surgeries. 100 eyes were selected having no ocular comorbidities, no major systemic illnesses that may interfere with the results of the study. All surgeries were performed by a single surgeon under topical anaesthesia with average surgical time of 6 minutes and preoperative preparation time of 30 minutes. It has been seen in our practise that post cataract surgery patients often express the perception of a vast difference between the experience of one eye being operated and then the second. Where maximum patients state that the second eye surgery was more time consuming.
