Abstract
Study design: Acute bilateral syphilitic chorioretinitis in a young adult.
Purpose:To highlight diagnostic complexities and successful treatment of acute bilateral syphilitic chorioretinitis.
Methods: Clinical evaluation with visual acuity and fundus examination.Serological tests (VDRL and TPHA),indicating syphilitic infection.Vitreous biopsy for PCR analysis.Treatment with benzathine penicillin, doxycycline, steroids, and proton pump inhibitors,
closely monitored.
Conclusions: This case underscores the importance of considering syphilitic chorioretinitis as a diagnostic possibility in patients with unexplained visual impairment.Through meticulous history-taking,comprehensive investigations and prompt intervention, even potentially sight-threatening conditions like ocular syphilis can be effectively managed, leading to favorable visual outcomes.
