FP0655 : A study on pseudophakic cystoid macular edema (PCME) rates in different intraocular lens used

Abstract

Purpose: To study the rates of PCME after placement of different types of intraocular lens in RIO, Kolkata.
Study design and methodology: A retrospective study of 60 cases undergoing cataract extraction with phacoemulsification/ IOL by different techniques was done. Cases were classified according to the types of IOL placement. Subset analysis excluded patients with pre-existing CME, hypertension, diabetic macular edema, macular atrophy, epiretinal membrane, uveitis, retinal venous occlusion, or retained lens fragments.
Results: 13.33% cases with posterior chamber intraocular lens (PCIOL), 20% cases with transconjunctival scleral fixated IOL (SFIOL), 46.67% of 15 cases with retropupillary iris claw lens, and 53.33% of 15 cases with anterior chamber IOL (ACIOL) developed PCME.
Conclusion: The rates of PCME was significantly greater in cases with retropupillary iris claw lens and those with ACIOL. These patients require regular screening along with treatment for the same.
