Abstract

Study Design: Hospital based cross-sectional study
Purpose: To report a case series of syphilitic uveitis in a tertiary care institute of North-East India
Methods: A series of 4 cases with uveitis were diagnosed and managed as syphilitic uveitis.
Case 1: A 23-year-old male with unilateral (U/L) posterior uveitis (vasculitis, chorioretinitis), positive for Rapid Plasma Reagin (RPR) (1:32) and Treponema pallidum haemagglutination (TPHA) and HIV (Human immunodeficiency virus)
Case 2: A 50-year-old female with U/L panuveitis, positive for RPR (1:128) and TPHA.
Case 3: A 28-year-old male (HIV positive on treatment) with panuveitis; positive for RPR (1:32) and TPHA.
Case 4: A 46-year-old female with intermediate and posterior uveitis; positive for RPR (1:2) and TPHA.
Results: All received neurosyphilitic regimen. RPR titre at 4 weeks decreased in all 4. Sexual partners tested positive for syphilis in 3 of them.
Conclusions: Four cases of syphilitic uveitis were successfully treated. .
