Abstract
Study design – Prospective Interventional Study
Purpose – Evaluate the efficacy of electrocautery and conjunctivoplasty in managing conjunctivochalasis(CCH).
Method – A total of 50 patients of CCH were included. In group 1, CCH reduction was achieved using radiofrequency (RF) electrocautery in fulguration mode.In group 2, CCH reduction was achieved using conjunctivoplasty with fornix conjunctival suturing. Schirmer test (STT), tear film breakup test (TBUT), tear meniscus height (TMH), tear meniscus area (TMA), and CCH area were evaluated pre-operatively and post-operatively on day 1, day 30, and day 90.
Results- Mild increase in the STT in both groups. Both groups had significant improvement in TBUT, TMH, and TMA, with Group 1 showing increased TMH (P<0.02) compared to Group 2. Both groups had a significant reduction in CCH.
Conclusion – Both groups had improvement in tear film parameters and showed a decline in CCH. Group 2 showed significant improvement in TFH compared to Group 2.
