Abstract
Dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) is the main treatment for nasolacrimal duct obstruction (NLDO). 50 consecutive patients with primary acquired nasolacrimal duct obstruction (PANDO) were divided into two groups for this prospective study. The anterior lacrimal sac and nasal mucosal flaps were adhered using fibrin glue in the 1st group's external dacryocystorhinostomy (Ext DCR) procedure.25 patients in the second group operated without using any flaps. On last followup, the anatomical and functional success rates were compared.Complications following surgery were. Both groups had 93% anatomical success, however only the first group achieved 92% functional success and the second 74%. in the 2nd group.(p<0.05).On comparing the ostium grading on endoscopy, no statistical difference in the two groups (p <0.05)was found. Both the groups had comparable results with respect to ostium grading status at 3 weeks, 8 weeks, and 12 weeks of follow‑up.1 patient had functional epiphora with patent irrigation.
