FP0447 : The Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Thickness Measurement Before And After Cataract Surgery Using SD-OCT.

Abstract

Study Design: Prospective observational cohort analytical study.
Purpose: 1.To study the effect of cataract surgery on peripapillary average RNFL thickness measurement.
2.To study the symmetry of average RNFL thickness of two pseudophakic eyes of same patient.
Methods: Hospital-based study of 75 patients above 45 years of age with cataract and planned for phacoemulsification with IOL implantation at Vision Eye Centre, New Delhi India. All patients underwent imaging with Cirrus SD-OCT model 400 and the optic disc cube 200×200 protocol at baseline and at 15 days follow up. Paired sample t-test was used to compare the RNFL parameters and ONH parameters.
RESULTS: The mean age of subjects was 61.01 ± 7.32 years (31 males, 44 females). The average RNFL increased from 87.42 ± 10.15 μm to 92.08 ± 10.77μm after phacoemulsification, an increase of 5% (P <0.001) .
CONCLUSION:A significant increase in RNFL thickness measurement and signal strength was observed after cataract surgery using SD OCT.
