FP0436 : CORRECTED IOP: AN ANSWER TO UNDERDIAGNOSED GLAUCOMA IN MYOPES

Abstract

ABSTRACT:Background:Eyes with myopia have a greater susceptibility for lamina cribrosa deformation which may lead to subsequent development of POAG.Both Myopia and raised IOP increase mechanical stress at optic nerve head leading to glaucomatous nerve damage. Purpose:Our study intends to evaluate the clinical profile of myopic subjects and the effect of corrected IOP on diagnosis of POAG.Study Design:A Prospective observational Study conducted over 14 months.Methods:164 eyes of 96 Myopic patients ≥25 years in age were included in the study and examined for visual acuity, BCVA, refraction, IOP, CCT, fundus examination, visual field analysis, AS-OCT.Results:Higher degrees of myopia was found to be significantly associated with higher mean corrected IOP, compared to moderate and low myopia (p = 0.034).Conclusion:Myopia is an important risk factor for development of POAG, with higher incidence in patients with high myopia.
