FP1147 : Ocular abnormalities in children with developmental delay from rural areas.

Abstract

PURPOSE- To analyse the ocular abnormalities in children with developmental delay from rural areas attending tertiary care centre in Jharkhand. STUDY DESIGN- Cross sectional observational study. METHODS- 54 children were included in the study. Uncorrected& best corrected visual acuity for distance&near, cycloplegic refraction,anterior&posterior segment examination was done.
RESULTS- 65% of the patients were male.Most common abnormal neuroimaging finding was gliotic changes& 23 children had systemic association.48 children had ocular problems:refractive error-40, strabismus-22,cataract-3,amblyopia-10,delayed visual maturation-7, cortical visual impairment-7. CONCLUSION- 88.8% developmental delay patients had Ocular abnormalities , commonest was refractive error(74%), common risk factors was low birth weight. Epilepsy was the most systemic association.
