Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate outcomes of topo-guided LASIK using a new software(iSMART LASIK software) as compared to treating the manifest refraction alone. Methods: This was a prospective randomized trial of Contoura LASIK outcomes using 2 different methods. In 90 eyes of 45 patients, 1 eye of each patient underwent treatment using the conventional manifest refraction(MR group), while in the 2nd eye the modified refraction given by the software was used(IC group). Results: Post-op assessment was performed at 3 months following surgery. The mean UCVA(decimal) was better in the IC group(1.13) as compared to MR group(1.05)(p=0.05). The % of eyes gaining 1 or more lines of UCVA better in the IC group(42%) compared to MR group(22%)(p=0.04). The percentage of eyes with residual cylinder within +/-0.5DC in IC group was 100% compared to 89% in MR group(p=0.02). Conclusion: Contoura LASIK using the iSMART software yields superior outcomes as compared to treating with manifest refraction alone.
