FP0353 : Unravelling Ocular Myiasis: Clinical Presentation, Diagnosis, and Management in Tropical Regions

Abstract

A case series conducted at a Varanasi tertiary hospital over 4 months

To investigate clinical presentations,diagnosis,and management of ocular myiasis due to Oestrus ovis larvae ,emphasizing the importance of prompt diagnosis and intervention.

9 patients with external ocular myiasis were included.Symptoms resembled allergic conjunctivitis initially but progressed to involve conjunctiva and cornea.untreated cases can lead to severe orbital and internal ocular myiasis. Detailed slit lamp evaluation, larval identification and removal were important.
Results
The study revealed diverse clinical presentations of ocular myiasis caused by Oestrus ovis larvae.Timely diagnosis and larval removal significantly reduced the risk of severe ocular complications.Management involved larval extraction,topical anesthesia,antibiotics and avoidance of steroids.Raising awareness and implementing preventive measures are essential in community.
