Abstract
To promptly diagnose and manage cases of acute comitant esotropia occurring in young adults due to prolonged screentime. methods: 3 cases presented with similar complaints of acute onset horizontal diplopia induced during quarantine. All had history of excessive smartphone use ,intermittent esotropia which became constant over time. Best corrected visual acuity 6/6 with myopic glasses. Ocular motility was full. They had large angle esotropia 60-70 PD. They did not respond to conservative management by cycloplegics and vision therapy for 6 months following which they underwent surgical correction by MR recession and LR resection.
Results: All patients were orthotropic , diplopia was relieved post-operatively and ocular alignment was stable even after 6 months follow up.
Conclusion: Excess digital gadgets usage has led to accommodation overuse which is linked to AACE. It is non-responsive to conservative management but optimally managed with recession and resection.
