Abstract
Purpose To determine the awareness and knowledge about vernal keratoconjunctivitis and factors affecting the compliance to treatment in caretakers of children with VKC visiting tertiary care hospital in North India Method The study was conducted in Department of Ophthalmology, in tertiary care
paediatric hospital in north India, a total 65 caretakers interviewed about the knowledge about the disease and attitude of caretakers.
Result- out of 268 children suffering from VKC during study period 65 meet the inclusion criteria. Out of 65 children, 53 (%) were male and 12 (%) were female. 98.46% caretakers were aware of the disease whereas 1.54% were not aware. 60% were aware of the pathology. Compliance
to treatment decreases with more episodes of VKC and longer duration of symptomsConclusion Chronic course of disease affects compliance to treatment as well as followup with eye specialist.
