Abstract
Aim-To report the incidence, intra operative features, side effects and analyse the ethologies of intra operative hard eye during phacoemulsification surgery.Intra Operative Hard eye was defined as "A state of intra operative progressive shallowing of Anterior chamber, propensity of the Iris to prolapse along with a hard eye." Study design:Prospective observational consecutive case series analysis: 4500 eyes of consecutive phacoemulsification procedures over a period of 3 years enrolled in the study group.Surgical videos of Eyes with features of intraoperative hard eye were analysed and the features , intraoperative strategies and post operative outcomes were documented.Results- 32 eyes of 4500 (O.71%) eyes had features of Intra operative Hard eye. 24 eyes -Fluid Misdirection (0.53%), 6 eyes – Speculum Pressure (0.13%)– 2eyes -Aborted Suprachoroidal Haemorrhage (0.04%) [SCH]. In 4 eyes the surgery needed to be deferred. 2 eyes with Fluid misdirection underwent pars plana tap.
