Abstract

Aim:The purpose of this retrospective study is to provide insight into the demographic profile and patterns of Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) at a tertiary care institute situated in a peripheral part of Eastern India
Materials & Methods:Retrospective study was conducted from Feb 2019 to July 2023, based on the defined ROP screening criteria, utilizing clinical records of infants screened for ROP. Infants with Birth weight (BW) <2000g and Gestational Age(GA) <34 weeks were screened. In addition, infants with GA between 34 weeks to 36 weeks having risk factors.
Results:A total of 523 infants were screened ,out of which 25 were excluded from the study due to incomplete records. The overall incidence of “any ROP” was 13.6%. ROP Stage 1-14.7%, Stage 2 -33.8%, Stage 3 -44.1%, Stage 4- 5.9% and Stage 5 -1.5%.
Conclusion: The incidence of any ROP was 13.6 %. Nearly 7.4% of infants presented with Stage 4/5 ROP had a mean weight of 1278g and presented at a post-natal age of 18 weeks.
