Abstract
STUDY DESIGN: Cross sectional observational study
PURPOSE: To detect unusual causes of orbital inflammations having varied presentations which have multiple systemic implications.
METHODS: conducted for 6 patients from age ranging from 30 to 70 years in 1 year at Susrut Eye Foundation and Research Centre, Kolkata who were diagnosed as having IgG4 related orbital disease. We emphasized on the demographic details like age of presentation, its varied clinical spectrum, laterality, a quantitative measurement of lacrimal gland functioning at various stages, its systemic manifestation with a 2 years follow-up.
RESULT: 2 out of 6 patients presented with dacryoadenitis, 4 with infiltrative lacrimal gland tumor. All of them responded well to steroid therapy, underwent biopsy for histopathological confirmation.
CONCLUSION: A subset of specific orbital diseases with systemic manifestations, relatively a newer entity for orbital inflammations, diagnosis confirmed by histopathology.
