FP2995 : Clinical evaluation of cornea affected in systemic diseases – their current & emerging treatment

Abstract

Study design:- prospective observational study
PURPOSE :- To analyse various systemic diseases with corneal afflictions and to effectively manage corneal diseases associated with systemic disorders.
METHOD :- Study was conducted in the department of ophthalmology of NSCB medical college .A total of 30 patients were randomly selected and were analyzed in accordance with predisposing factors, systemic examinations, slit lamp examination and treatment advised in accordance with the diagnosis of the patient.
RESULT :- Out of 60 eyes evaluated
70% were found with dry eyes
7% were found with keratitis
1% were found each with keratoconus, keratinisation, mutton fat Kp's
2% had diffusely opaque cornea
And in 20% patients cornea involvement was not found .
CONCLUSION
Study shows :- Corneal involvement has been observed in a number of systemic diseases
Systemic diseases may affect the entire ocular surface.
Corneal problems are seen in genetic, infectious, immune and endocrine diseases.
