Abstract

STUDY DESIGN: retrospective , single centre, single surgeon study
PURPOSE: to highlight the utility and efficacy of the use of phakic IOLs in visual and refractive rehabilitation in special case scenarios.
METHODS: 7 eyes operated for phakic IOL surgery at a tertiary eye care centre were studied retrospectively. Ocular examination, refraction, topography, specular microscopy, IOL master 700 and WTW measurement with digital callipers was done. Uneventful surgery was performed in all the 7 cases.
RESULTS: the mean BCVA achieved was 0.59 log MAR unit. The mean post operative vault was 724.54 (320- 968 microns). IOP was normal in all the cases, with uneventful follow ups.
CONCLUSION: use of pIOLs, to correct myopia and compound myopic astigmatism associated with keratoconus and post LASIK regression is a noble choice for refractive rehabilitation. The efficacy, predictability, and safety of these pIOLs was proved in all the study eyes.
