Abstract

Purpose- The aim of this study is to analyze the efficacy of PPV-hyaloidotomy-zonulectomy and iridotomy in Malignant glaucoma (MG) in Indian eyes
Method- It is a retrospective chart review. Medical records of patients with MG, who underwent Pars Plana Vitrectomy-Hyaloidotomy-Zonulectomy-Iridotomy were included in the study. Data collected included demographic data, best-corrected visual acuity, intraocular pressure (IOP), the number of anti-glaucoma medications (AGM) used at presentation and follow-ups
Results-The final analysis included 36 eyes of 30 patients. There was a statistically significant reduction of IOP in each visit (P value 0.001) and decrease in the number of AGM used (P value < 0.001). 19 eyes (65.5%) had complete success and 10 eyes (34.4%) had qualified success at the end of 6 months
Conclusion Even though Malignant glaucoma is considered as a refractory entity, pars plana vitrectomy-hyaloidotomy-zonulectomy-iridotomy surgery can achieve favorable outcomes
