Abstract
STUDY DESIGN: Case-Control Study.
PURPOSE: To find out the association between migraine and normal tension glaucoma by comparing the prevalence of migraine in the NTG group and the control group.
METHODS: The study comprised of 100 cases and 100 controls. The Migraine Screen-Questionnaire was given to both cases and controls. The total score is 5, where a cut-off point of ≥4 was used to indicate a case of migraine.
RESULTS: In the control group, 29% had symptoms of migraine while in the NTG group, 64% had symptoms of migraine. The Odd’s Ratio calculated was 4.35. The P value is <0.0001 for 95% confidence interval.
CONCLUSION: The exact etiology of NTG is not known. Our findings suggest an association between migraine and the risk of NTG. One possible explanation might be vascular regulation, as the multifactorial nature of glaucoma is well known and vascular factors play a key role in its pathophysiology.
