FP2850 : Clinical, microbiological profile and visual outcomes in poly microbial keratitis

Abstract

• Study design- retrospective study

• Purpose- to describe the clinical aspects, microbiological spectra and visual outcomes in poly microbial keratitis

• Methods-It is a retrospective study of 82 cases of culture proven poly microbial keratitis from January 2020 to December 2022 in a tertiary eye care center. The risk factors, causative microbial organisms, clinical features, and visual outcomes were analyzed.

• Results-vegetative matter trauma was the common mode of injury, mean follow up period was 12 days. Most of the ulcers were central (50%) followed by para central (27.5%). mixed etiology (fungus and bacteria) was found in 51.2% of cases.at last follow up, 20.5% had visual acuity of 6/36 or better.6 cases were surgically intervened.

• Conclusion- mixed bacterial and fungal was the most common microbiological spectra seen. trauma is the major risk factor.
