FP2819 : ACUTE CORNEAL HYDROPS: IS FORTY REALLY THE NEW TWENTY?

Abstract

Study Design: Case report.
Purpose: To bring to light a unique case of hydrops in middle age.
Method: A middle-aged homemaker presented with complaints of sudden, painful diminution of vision in the right eye for one day. There was no history of trauma or any other previous ocular history. It was associated with redness, watering, and intense pain. On clinical examination, she was diagnosed with acute hydrops, which was also confirmed via investigations such as Anterior segment optical coherence tomography (ASOCT).
Result: The patient underwent both medical and surgical (descemetopexy) treatment. The patient reported alleviation of symptoms with some improvement in vision.
Conclusion: We should not rule out Acute Corneal Hydrops as a disease of the young. Prompt and apt intervention is the key for good visual rehabilitation.
