STUDY DESIGN-CASE REPORT

PURPOSE-TO SHOW THE EFFECT OF INTRAVEINOUS METHYLPREDNISOLONE IN IMPROVEMENT IN VISUAL ACUITY IN A PATIENT WITH CENTRAL RETINAL ARTERIAL OCCLUSION

METHODS-The patient presented with complaints of sudden onset diminution of vision for 1 day in right eye, with the contralateral eye absolutely normal. The BCVA at the time of presentation was found to be "Finger counting close to face in the right eye and 0.00 logMAR in the left eye. Anterior segment findings showed RAPD present and fundus showed the presence of a cherry red spot. OCT suggestive of thickening and hyperreflectivity of inner retinal layers. The diagnosis of CRAO was made. Urgent AC paracentesis was done and blood thinners started on day 0. Intraveinous methylprednisolone injections started next day onwards, for 5 days.

RESULTS-Right eye BCVA improved from finger counting close to face to 0.20 logMAR

CONCLUSION-systemic steroids can be used for the improvement in visual acuity in cases of CRAO
